On Spreading Democracy, "Fixing" the Vatican, and Moral Dilemmas

The U.S. Invasion of the Vatican

A short thought provoking essay by Jacob Hornberger, founder and president of The Future of Freedom Foundation, posted on LewRockwell.com today.

  1. Hi Mike, not acknowledging the word 'suppose', I was horrified; until further in the dialog, I realized, I should start over, to carefully understand the essay by Jacob.
Thank God the Vatican is a Petrine Autocracy and not a Democracy.
P.S I was away for two weeks, what happened to the traffic on sda2rc?

  2. Hi Nature B.! Welcome back! LOL...yes, please make sure you read that essay for what it is, and not as a news update. The point Jacob is making has more to do with his trying to point out some of the bad policy the U.S. has in "taking democracy to the world". It seems great when those nations we invade are non-Christian...but look at how incredibly insane those policies would be if applied to the Vatican in their election of Popes. Maybe democracy is not the universal answer. But more importantly, perhaps it is not our business to force "freedom" on folks.

Things are a bit slow on SDA2RC...but I did like your question to Jonathan...I was thinking the same thing earlier this morning. I'd love to see some evidence for his assertion.

    Take care my friend!

    God bless all!!!

  3. Actually, a democracy is and always has been, a really bad idea. A republic on the other hand is a good thing. Democracy is really nothing more than mob rule. The most votes win, whether they are right or moral or equitable or not.

As an aside, this why we are so blessed to have the Magisterium. There are some Protestant denominations whose doctrines depend on majority rule - go figure.

  4. You are right on the money Lady Dragon!!

The following quote has always been attributed to Benjamin Franklin, but I'm not sure he is the one who said it:

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well armed lamb".

It is interesting to read what the founders of America had to say about democracy...not much positive.

    God bless all!!!
